24. The brain damage that causes cerebral palsy may also produce a number of other disorders including mental retardation, seizures, visual and auditory deficits. The more extensive the brain damage, more chances that the child will have mental retardation. It is however very important to realise that all children with cerebral palsy are not mentally retarded. There are many persons with cerebral palsy who have normal intelligence. Mental retardation occurs only whenever there is extensive demage to the brain.
