District Disability Rehabilitation Centres

OBJECTIVES:

To establish a District Disability Rehabilitation Centre at seven Districts.

To establish workshop to manufacture and assemble aids & appliances, and to distribute them to the needy through ADIP scheme.

To develop the District Centres into information and service providing centres in the field of disability rehabilitation.

To establish linkages and develop networking among government departments such as welfare, health, education & also involvement of NGOs at district level.

To undertake any other work, such as initiation of services, training programmes for personnel in the field of rehabilitation of the disabled person.

To ensure provision of comprehensive rehabilitation services to the disabled at each district level, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (GOI) has initiated a nationwide programme in June, 2000. As a first step, 107 districts in various parts of the country have been selected and accordingly NIMH has been allotted 7 districts namely, Wardha (Maharashtra), Gulbarga (Karnataka), Madurai, Thoothukudi (Tamilnadu) Kozhikode ( Kerala) and Trissur (Kerala). NIMH has established fullfledged DDRCs in six districts, details of which are furnished below:
