RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT:

According to the priorities of the country's needs in the area of mental retardation, NIMH focused on applied research followed by developmental research in finding out solutions for the problems and coming out with service and training models. The R&D programmes were undertaken in collaboration with India-US Rupee Fund, UNICEF, S & T Mission Model and ICSR, where the funding has been given by the collaborators. Twenty five (35) projects have been completed so far and presently 14 projects are going on.

As result of the R&D activity, NIMH has come out with more than 75 original publications, and also educational folders, posters, flipcharts and software packages including 225 Publications in regional languages, which are widely used in the field. The research activity will continue to fill the gaps in the matrix of service models and gradually NIMH will itself to undertake fundemental research in collaboration with CCMB, NIN, JNTU, etc .
