 
MODELS OF
CARE AND REHABILITATION:
The
Institute developed indigenous service models based on research
and development activities of the Institute. These models have
become the part of the curriculum of the professional courses.
So far home based, community based, group parent training, early
intervention services, special educational models, vocational
models - transition from school to work have been developed,
which are widely in use in the country.
With
the aim of enabling and empowering the persons with mental retardation,
the Institute offers a wide range of comperhensive services and
is aiming at zero rejection and also provides practical demonstration
for the students of diploma, degree and post-graduate courses
as recognised by Rehabilitation Council of India. In this direction,
the Institute has developed a matrix of service models, which
will work as a road map for development of models to meet the
requirement of every category of mental retardation including
associated disabilities.

FAMILY COTTAGE SERVICES:
The
Services offered by the Institute are predominantly home-based.
However, a large number of out-station parents can stay in an
atmosphere similar to home along with the family members for
a period of 2-3 days extendable to a maximum of 1 week. During
this short stay, they can obtain all the services of the Institute
such as skill training, individual and family counselling, management
of problem behaviours, speech language therapy, medical advice,
physiotherapy, recreational activities and other needed help.
PARENT TRAINING:
To involve the parents in the care, management and training of
their children, encourage mutual support amongst parents, and
exchange of ideas and information, the Institute conducts parent
training programmes through out the year.
SPECIAL
EDUCATION CENTRE
(Karavalamban Kendra)
The
special Education Centre admits about 100 children with mental
retardation in the age range of 3 to 16 years. The centre provides
the facility of practice teaching to the trainees attending various
long term as well as short term training courses at the Institute.
MODEL
SCHOOL FOR MENTALLY DIFICIENT CHILDREN, NEW DELHI:
The
Model School admits about 100 children with mental retardation
in the age range of 5 to 18 years. There are 12 classes at various
levels of pre-primary, primary, secondary, pre-vocational and
vocational. Apart from the regular training programme, extra-curricular
activities like sports, music, drama and recreational activities
are also provided to the students. |
